Summer of Service 2022!
YVC’s Summer of Service is an opportunity for youth ages 11-18 to grow personally while serving others. We use the principles of service-learning to make volunteering meaningful and educational. We implement activities, lessons, and guest speakers that emphasize career connections and skill development in the areas of communication, collaboration and leadership. YVC’s camp experience will allow the youth volunteer to cultivate a deeper understanding of how their service impacts their community.
The Summer of Service program will span 5 weeks, Monday-Thursday from 9:00am-3:00pm. We will complete a different service project each day with agencies such as Rebuild Upstate, the Rainbow Gang, and Hospice of the Upstate. We will also play games, do service-learning lessons, and have a few guest speakers! Possible weeks: June 27-30 (Spots Left) July 18-21 FULL August 8-11 FULL If you have questions about the Summer of Service please contact Bailey Gottheiner at 864-226-3438 or bailey.gottheiner@uwandersoncty.com. Sign-upsSign-ups will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Each week will have a max capacity of 9 youth. We will notify you to confirm your spot in the camp weeks you sign up for. Once a project week fills up there will be an option for a waiting list. Those on the waiting list are not guaranteed a spot on the projects. Depending on demand, we may only allow each youth to sign up for one week - please note your top choices for week(s) in your application. Youth with record of positive volunteerism with YVC will be given first priority. Download the sign-up form here.
TransportationYouth must be dropped off at 9:00am in the morning and picked up at 3:00pm (unless they drive themselves). Transportation to projects throughout the day will be provided by United Way YVC staff.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be there the whole 5-day block?
YES! We do realize that circumstances come up where you are forced to miss a day (emergencies), but please plan to be at each day barring unforeseen circumstances.
What will we be doing each week?
Each week varies slightly. We will be working with agencies throughout the week such as Rebuild Upstate, Special Populations Rainbow Gang, Adopt-a-Stream, and Hospice of the Upstate. We will also be spending time learning about our community through service-learning, doing team-builders, games, and even having a few guest speakers! A typical day will include an ice breaker, service project (or two!), and service-learning activities. A full schedule will be sent out to participants in advance.
Do you provide food?
We will provide a snack each day and water. Students should bring a bag lunch. Please note that some projects will be outdoors and we may not have access to a fridge/microwave depending on the location. We will provide one pizza lunch during the week.
What is the registration deadline?
Many of our camps fill up early. We encourage you to register ASAP to secure a spot. The last chance to register for any week of camp is at midnight on the Wednesday before the camp begins (if any spots are left). You will receive a confirmation email or phone call to let you know if you have a spot in the week you signed up for. Payments are due within two weeks of your spot confirmation or before the first day of the camp, whichever comes first.
Can I register my youth for half-day or part-time camp?
We do not offer a half-day or part-time schedule. If you are going to be late or need to leave early from camp, please contact Ellie.
Can I cancel a week of camp?
You may cancel a week of camp. Please give us enough notice so that we can open the spot to another youth. All fees are non-refundable. We have been holding that spot for your youth and have potentially turned other youth away, so let us know ASAP.

One shirt will be provided for free, but you can buy additional shirts for $10. T-Shirts are available in adult sizes S-XL while supplies last.
